an 84-year-old woman killed in her home in the north bay. several suspects track down including two crossing into arizona. >> of course i'm glad they caught the guys. i'm very happy. get them off, they don't belong on this earth. >> reporter: tonight the victim's brother talks about the arrest as we learn the suspects went to great lengths to try to evade capture. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. developing news in livermore. a double homicide in the usually quiet city of livermore. tonight police say they have detained one person for questioning. this is a live scene of the shootings at this hour.

since the two male shooting victims have been found 6-1/2 hours ago police have been looking for clues and interviewing potential witnesses. police say they were called to altamont creek drive around 4:30 this this afternoon. when calls came in about people arguing in the area. officers say they when they arrived on the scene they found a victim dead. police say they're still trying to piece together what happened but they believe three men were arguing when someone started shooting. >> based on the investigation thus far we're pretty confident the suspect fled on the scene. >> at least one gun was found at the scene. police have not released the names of the victims but say both men appear to have been in their 20s. police say the last homicide in livermore was in 2012. now to those new developments in the murder of a

woman in pen grove. 84-year-old olga daneli was found in her home. we want to show you video from arizona. 27-year-old victor silva and an unidentified woman led deputy deputies on a pursuit. they said officers were also fired at an officer putting down spike strips. the woman pulled a gun on officers who shot and killed her. silva was arrested. the victim's brother lived with her in penn grove. debora villalon spoke with her tonight and she has reaction to the swift capture and killing of one suspect. >> reporter: penn grove is about a block long. everybody knows everybody. and larry daneli is still mystified why alleged killers

ended up on his quiet road. >> i am so glad put those bastards in jail. >> reporter: daneli is blunt about her sister's killers. >> they should have killed all three of them. all of them. >> reporter: daneli hearing the suspect's names does not recognize them. and he has no idea what connection they would have to the 100-year-old farmhouse he and his sister shared. >> it doesn't make sense. the whole thing doesn't make sense. they didn't have any reason to kill anybody. my sister was a saint. i mean couldn't have asked for a better woman. >> reporter: olga daneli's touch is everywhere on this peaceful ranch. the garden, the walking paths, the chicken coops. >> we all wonder is anybody safe anymore. there was nobody who would say

good riddens to olga going, we all loved her. >> this is her domain. >> reporter: daneli's tidy kitchen is still dusty with fingerprinter powder. >> there's no money. maybe a couple hundred dollars here and there but i don't know why they would choose this place. >> reporter: as painful as it is to be here her brother can't be any where else. >> i just can't walk away. the place is trashed. i just can't stand seeing it trashed. it's a nice clean house; it was spotless. nothing is going to bring olga back. she had a beautiful heart. show was kind and gentle. >> reporter: at 84, daneli was a home body but enjoyed to go out for church and shopping. >> she was still vibrant and healthy. >> reporter: and a giving person who still had lots to

give. >> these guys should be put away forever. there's no doubt in my mind. really to do something like this. they don't belong walking on this earth. >> reporter: it was larry daneli's red lexus that was stolen after the killing. but recovered by gps on the peninsula on friday. he was away visiting friends, heather. he was celebrating his 75 75th birthday on the day his sister died. >> such a coincidence. what a difficult time for him. the california republican party made history by recognizing a major gop gay group in a formal group the log cabin republicans received a special recognition at the convention? sacramento. the vote was 861-293. the log cabin republicans are one of the first gay groups sanctioned by a state republican party. today's vote means for the first time ever gay republicans are officially welcome to organize and recruit new

killed. he made comments during an interview that were critical of russian president vladimir putin east actions. >> putin started a mad aggressive policy. for our country and many citizens abore against ukraine. >> reporter: many are criticizing putin as involved in the death. some analysts believe the murder may mark a disturbing turning point for russia's relationship with the united states. >> russian journalists have been murdered before, other distents but never someone who was a deputy prime minister. this is big and it marks transition. >> reporter: secretary of state john kerry is calling for a thorough and transparent investigation. >> this was a man who was deeply committed to a better relationship with the world. as deputy prime minister he worked hard to prove the relationship with the united

states. >> reporter: moscow's leading investigative association says they're looking for the persons responsibility. yolo county sheriff deputy arrested samantha green. the body of justice reese was found along the banks of the sacramento river on wednesday. just two days after green and her son were reported missing. her father said the two were fleeing some sort of threat but did not elaborate further. green will be seen in court wednesday to face charges. the baby's father was also arrested but not in connection to newborn's death he was picked up on misdemeanor charges. police in hayward arrested a man they believed shot at an officer and was suspected in another shooting hours earlier.

authorities say he fired at an officer after a traffic stop around 2:00 a.m. when the officer pulled over the suspect, investigators say he got out of the car and fired at the officer who was not hit. but was able to shoot back. one woman who lives in the area says she was forced to leave her home as hayward police searched for that gunman. >> they were just like, you need to get out now. i said i have a newborn baby i need to grab pampers and whatever. you need to get out now. they had rifles in their hands so we had no choice but to leave. >> reporter: authorities spent several hours searching for the suspect. there's no word on who was targeted in that case. a high school freshman walking with friends shot and killed. the plea from his family and the police chief to help find the killer. >> a hawaii bound plane flies right into a flock of birds this morning in the bay area. why experts say this is a fairly common occurrence this time of year.

child. devon ellis was shot before 8:00 last night as he walked with friends on brookdale avenue near coolage. friends and family gathered to remember the teenager. >> reporter: the vigil was held near devon ellis' home not far from where the 14-year-old was killed. >> devon was a great kid. you know, great kid. >> reporter: friends and family remembered 14-year-old devon ellis shot and killed saturday evening. >> i can't. >> reporter: devon's mother was too upset to speak on camera but his uncle tells us devon was a talented athlete who was also doing well in school. >> you really don't see a lot of kids doing home work these days but that young man actually cared about his grade and his future. to make sure to get his mom out of here and to make his dad proud. that was pretty much it.

that's all he lived for. >> reporter: family friends called for police to do more from city leaders. >> we're tired of seeing these being killed on the street. this kid was no thug. that's what this kid was about right here. >> reporter: the 14-year-old was walking home when someone opened fire. neighbors say they heard several shots, then did what they could to comfort him. >> i just held him. i just held him and talked to him. i was trying to keep him from vomit on his vomit or blood. >> the possibility of mistaken identity always exists. the possibility of retaliation always exists. we are not able to say at this stage in the investigation exactly what led up to the shooting. >> reporter: police tell us the

area where this happened is very busy. a lot of people walking, biking and driving through. oakland police and crime stoppers are offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest. they are hoping it will encourage anyone with information to come forward. heather. >> let's hope that reward does in fact, lead to some information in this tragic case, cara, thank you. oakland police chief nguyen went on to express his thoughts. officers shot and killed a 48-year-old man this morning after they say police refewed to put down his gun. it was all caught on video. and we warn you, it is difficult to watch.

meanwhile at least three other officers scuffled with another man on the ground by a tent. the man grabbed an officers gun. at one point police can be heard saying drop the gun. two officers opened fire. in all five shots can be heard on the video. police say they first tried to tase the man. >> a taser was deployed. but at this time we still don't know if the taser did strike the suspect. after that time, the struggle continued. >> he did not have no weapon. they just shot him. they could have just wrestled him down and took him to jail. >> reporter: a woman who lives near by said he knew the man who was killed he was known as africa. she says he told her he had recently been released from a facility. 21 asyirian christians were freed today. now those released said to be elderly men and women.

just a small number of the 150 people who were captured when the militants attacked villages in syria last week. syrian observatory said all those released were said to be residents of the village of tal karan. newly published e-mails have said that the man known as jihadi john had suicidal thoughts five years ago. he thought about taking sleeping pills just to get away from the scrutiny of the british security service. he claimed he was being relentlessly persecuted by

british security service. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is expected to speak before lawmakers. 30 democratic lawmakers say they plan to boycott the prime minister's speech. netanyahu was invited by john boehner without consulting with president obama which is not the usual protocall. however, dianne feinstein says she will attend. a dallas nurse infected with ebola announced she will sue the hospital she worked for. pham's attorneys said the hospital did not train nurses how to treat ebola patients. pham also accuses the hospital of using her for public relations. she says she still suffers from body aches and insomnia.

the hospital hopes to resolve the matter. a trip from the bay area to hawaii had to turn around after hitting a flock of birds. >> reporter: hawaiian airlines bound for maui did not get too far across the pacific ocean. the plane was still gaining al altitude when they heard from the pilot. >> the captain comes on still very mellow and said, we just hit a flock of birds. we're turning around and landing. safety first. of course right after that the plane started rocking about a little bit which was nervewracking. but we landed just fine. >> reporter: this is what she and the other 242 passengers saw when they deplaned in oakland. 30 to 40 sand piper birds were hit. aviation consultant says bird

strikes are common. especially during springtime when migratory birds are flying north to south. he says some of these birds use the bay area as a pit stop. >> they can rest. they can get fed there. it's a very attractive area. all the airports in the bay area in the sacramento airport and sacramento valley are prone to having bird strikes this time of year. >> any type of bird strike is a serious event. you want to make sure you check any component to the engine before you go on. >> reporter: while passengers waited. brown says they got a little taste of maui before reboarding. a spokeswoman for hawaii airlines says oakland employees just wanted to share the aloha spirit through live music at the gate. a memorable time for passengers headed hawaii. a spokesperson says they have

two american members conducted what is being described as a tricky space walk today. >> he will anchor a tether hook to a near by handrail. >> reporter: two astronauts rigged cable and other equipment to prepare for the installation of new docking ports. the docking ports will be set up later this year followed by a spacecraft being developed by boeing and space x. and tahoe is preparing for a new record in snow. that report was set in the 95- 96 season. with 102-inches boston now only needs 5.7-inches more and looks like that's going to happen. another four to 6-inches is expected there by early tomorrow. thousands of runners and walkers laced up this morning in san jose 408 race.

it's the same race where a veteran put on his uniform and greeted runners as they ran by. that has started a new tradition. >> reporter: on mile 33 of this ak race through a san jose neighborhood. >> all right. >> hoorah. >> reporter: a record player plays a 1920s tune. the older generation of veterans here. the people doing the cheering and high fives got some appreciation in return. >> thank you. >> these vets young and old hope they are part of a new tradition inspired by the actions of a man named joe belt. during last year's race. the world war ii veteran donned his uniform and stood outside to wave everybody going by. when runners saw him in his

uniform, they waved and clapped. >> thank you for your service. >> it's not that often you get to see an american hero like that. it give you an extra boost and incentive to finish your race with your chest held high. >> reporter: the exchange was captured on video, it was viral. and on the last chapter of belt's life, he made new friends. >> not something he tried to do. it was just him. he would always say hello and something about the military. his favorite thing to say was give them hell. >> veterans of all ages came out to support the cause. >> i feel very humbled by this.

we want to show you now the winter scene of squall valley yesterday. so much snow that the chair lifts had to be shoveled off. something that hasn 't been needed in quite some time. skiers and snow boarders took advantage of all that fresh powder. it was also a much needed dumping for the businesses that need snow to survive. >> reporter: this weekend's storm brought two feet of snow on the summit on sugar bowl and that brought a lot of happy

skiers and snow boarders to this mountain. >> everybody smiles on the slopes. >> winter is back right. we finally got some snow and time to get out and enjoy it. >> reporter: with clear skies above and fresh snow on the ground. today was expected to be the best day to hit the slopes in a long time. >> this is my second winter here and i was waiting for a day like this. yesterday was amazing and i've never been here so i wanted to come check it out today. >> reporter: all this snow is not just good for skiers and snow boarders it's great for the businesses in this area here. they're able to open new lifts and bring on seasonal employees. the cold temperatures and new snow paths also allow them to make and keep more of the powder for a longer period of time. so according to brandon bess this beautiful start to the month of march could be the sign of a great spring ski season ahead. >> should be good skiing here in march and hopefully that goes into april and we get to stay open for a couple more months here. >> kristin tells us that today

was expected to be the busiest sugar bowl since december and with more snow on the way later this week, they can only hope it leads to more business. about 48,000 more -- oakland's minimum wage will rise to $10.28. prices will likely rise in some restaurants as well to make up for the increase. they're taking the space to write in a tip off the bill. the boost in pay spells security. >> now it's not like i'm not worried about making rent. living paycheck to paycheck. >> i can just relax almost. knowing that i am having extra income for all the extra stuff that i want to do. >> reporter: wage hike also affects the city of oakland which will have to budget at least $250,000 more dollars to cover increased pay to some

part time employees. minimum wage workers and other bay area cities are also expecting raises. san francisco's minimum wage is set to rise to $10.24 on may 1st. berkeley's minimum wage is scheduled to go up to $11 an hour on october 1st. in san jose minimum wage workers got a 15-cent an hour wage on january 1st to $10.30 an hour. richland police have confirmed that a man has died after an afternoon shooting. the gunfire erupted about 3:35 this afternoon. three people were wounded in the i said -- in the incident. there's no word on the condition of the other victim. police say it appears shots were fired after an argument broke out between several people. the highway patrol today released pretty dramatic video of a dramatic rescue.

a 24-year-old man fell an estimated 80 feet down a cliff side near arch rock. that man ended up in the water. a highway patrol helicopter lowered a officer who rescued the man. an 11-year-old girl was walking her dog on el dorado avenue. the girl says she walked by a man siting in a car naked from the waist down. he is described as being in his mid-30s to 40s with a medium built and short dark hair with a goatee driving a newer model hatch back with tinted rear windows. they're not sure if this latest case is related to four other

indecedent exposure case reported in october. >> a 40-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a pit bull. emergency crews were called to the home on silverado drive in pinol just before 10:00 this morning. when they arrived they found a woman suffering serious injuries to her face, arms and legs. she was flown by helicopter to john mier. the pit bull is a family dog who lives inside the home. animal services now has that dog. investigator says they don't know what caused the animal to attack. a landmark theater give up pieces of its history today. it closed in 2001. for years it hosted older classic films. and midnight showings of the rocky horror show with full audience participation. now it's earned by the berkeley music group that's a nonprofit that plans to reopen the theater as a place for music. all the old seats were up for

there but lingering instability producing nice cloud development. but the main action was focused to our south down in southern california. thunderstorms in the los angeles area coming closer here. a lot of activity in this part of the area. and clouds approaching kate mendecino. this activity will be approaching the area. the possibility of a few pop up showers. right now we have in the clear with mostly clear skies out there. but we are tracking the chance of a pop up shower in your monday forecast. the significant snow in the sierra and they needed it. look at these numbers as we see from some of the resorts out toward sugar bowl and squall valley. these numbers very impressive and there's a chance they could

take up maybe one to two inches. mostly clear skies right now. here is our live camera out toward san francisco. tonight we will thicken up the cloud cover for your monday, sun-cloud mix. especially for the first half of the day. the extended forecast, a dry warming pattern. cooler spots will be in the 30s. pretty chilly up in parts of the north bay for the inland bay valleys. widespread 40s for san francisco, mountain view and san jose starting out today 43 degrees. our old system to our south, the new one developing out here to our north and west. lots of cloud cover and there's a chance of a pop up shower. this will not be widespread. and as i mentioned, maybe a little bit of dusting up in the sierra one to two inches. that system moving out quickly by this time tomorrow night. high pressure returns. and this will push the storm track up to our north. lots of sunshine in the extended forecast. temperatures will be trending
